SEE Sectoral Seminar – Chemistry and Non-Metals
A seminar for chemistry and non-metals unions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia, with guest lecturers from Dutch FNV union, was held in Nasice, Croatia, 3-4 June 2007. The aim of the seminar was exchange of experiences and information, as well as organisation and deepening of cooperation among the present unions.
Representatives from each country presented the situation of their union and of their country, giving economy data for chemistry sector, organisation of collective agreements within the sector. In Croatia there is no branch agreement, therefore the agreements are bargained only at company level. Over 80% of employed in the sector are covered by company level agreement.
Salary in Tourism Sector 15 to 20 % Lower Than Croatian Average
Although Croatian tourism in a couple of last years has considerable results, and has increased profit annually, it has still not reached the pre-war level, mainly because of insufficient investment, striking seasonal character, and too high prices of products and services compared to competition countries. That is the message about the state of the tourism that could be heard at the “Presentation of the sectoral study of tourism in Croatia”, held at Zagreb, 21 June 2007 that was organised by Tourism and Services Union of Croatia (STUH), Friedrich Ebert Foundation and ICEM IUF SEE Office Zagreb.
The study showed that in the sector of tourism and catering there is an above-average employment rate, but at the same time the salaries are constantly lower in the whole sector for about 15 to 20 per cent than the average salary in Republic of Croatia. That difference is bigger than in most of Mediterranean countries.
